note: I tend to mix canons and have given him slight background from several of the books since we don't know much about his life before the movie (How to Speak Dragonese, How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse, A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons/How Not to Celebrate Your Birthday and How to Ride a Dragon's Storm specifically). I also integrate as much accuracy into his background as far as Norse mythology and viking history are concerned while still maintaining the integrity of his character as I meddle with his background.
